Some of the world’s most loved fragrances cost Rs 40,000 to Rs 100,000 or more in Pakistan. Many people love these scents but can’t justify the price, and many others have been let down by cheap copies that smell right for ten minutes and then vanish. Impression perfumes sit in between. Here is an honest guide to what they are, how they differ from fakes, and what to look for.
What is an impression perfume?
An impression (or “inspired by”) perfume is an original fragrance created to share the scent profile of a well-known perfume. It is sold under its own name, in its own bottle, by a different brand. It does not pretend to be the original.
Think of it the way you might think of a talented musician covering a classic song: the melody is familiar, but the performance is their own.
Impression perfumes vs fake perfumes
This difference matters, both legally and ethically:
- A fake (counterfeit) copies the original brand’s name, logo and bottle and pretends to be the real thing. Counterfeits are illegal, often poorly made, and can contain unsafe ingredients.
- An impression perfume is openly sold under its own brand. It tells you honestly which scent it resembles, so you know what to expect.
Why are designer perfumes so expensive?
A large share of a designer perfume’s price pays for things other than the liquid: global advertising, celebrity campaigns, retail rent, import duties and distributor margins. Impression houses spend on the fragrance instead.
What to look for in a quality impression perfume
- Concentration: the best impression perfumes are Eau de Parfum or Extrait de Parfum. Low concentrations fade fast.
- Honest descriptions: the brand should tell you clearly which scent profile it shares and list the notes.
- Quality packaging: heavy glass, a good atomiser and a sealed box show care.
- Clear policies: real contact details, delivery terms and a fair return policy.
How KAEL approaches it
KAEL is an independent perfume house. Every fragrance is sold under its own name, in its own bottle, as an Extrait de Parfum. On each product page we tell you openly which icon of perfumery it resembles, for example TWILIGHT (similar to Baccarat Rouge 540), LEGACY (similar to Creed Aventus) and FIERO (similar to Dior Sauvage Elixir). We are not affiliated with those houses; we simply want you to know exactly what you are buying.
Will it smell exactly the same?
An impression aims for the same character and feel, but no two perfumes are identical. Raw materials, concentration and your own skin all change how a fragrance smells. Many people find a well-made Extrait impression lasts longer on them than the original EDT or EDP.
Frequently asked questions
Are impression perfumes legal?
Selling an original fragrance under your own brand is widely practised. Copying another brand’s name, logo or packaging, which is what counterfeiters do, is not.
Are impression perfumes worth it?
A good one is: you enjoy a luxury scent profile, with strong performance, at a fraction of the price.
