Few things are more disappointing than spraying a perfume you love and not being able to smell it an hour later. In Pakistan, heat, humidity, dry winter air and long days out all work against your fragrance. The good news: a few simple habits can double how long your perfume lasts.
1. Start with a stronger concentration
The single biggest factor is what is in the bottle. An Eau de Toilette simply has less fragrance oil than an Eau de Parfum or an Extrait de Parfum. If your perfume always fades by midday, the concentration is usually the reason.
2. Apply right after a shower, on moisturised skin
Fragrance clings to hydrated skin and evaporates quickly from dry skin. Apply an unscented moisturiser or a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your pulse points, then spray. This one step alone makes a noticeable difference, especially in winter.
3. Spray the right places
- Pulse points: neck, behind the ears, inner wrists and inner elbows, where your body warms the scent.
- Chest: under your shirt, where the fragrance rises gently through the day.
- Clothing and hair: fabric and hair hold scent far longer than skin. A light spray on a scarf, dupatta or jacket can last all day. Test on a hidden area first, as some oils can mark delicate fabrics.
4. Do not rub your wrists together
It is a common habit, but rubbing creates friction and heat that break down the top notes faster. Spray, then let it dry naturally.
5. Choose the right scent for the season
Light citrus and aquatic scents evaporate fastest. In summer, choose fresh fragrances with a strong woody or musky base, such as AZURO. In winter, warm amber, oud and leather scents like DASTAN and MONARCH last longest.
6. Layer your scent
Using an unscented or matching body lotion before your perfume builds a base that holds fragrance longer. Keep layering simple so the perfume stays the star.
7. Store your perfume properly
Heat and sunlight damage fragrance. Never keep perfume in your car or on a sunny windowsill. Store it in its box, in a cool, dark drawer. Bathrooms are also a poor choice because of steam and temperature changes.
8. Carry a travel atomiser
For long days, weddings or travel, decant a little into a small travel spray and refresh in the evening.
Why can’t I smell my own perfume?
This is called olfactory fatigue. After a while, your nose gets used to a scent and stops noticing it, even though people around you still can. Before re-spraying, ask someone close to you. Over-spraying is the most common mistake.
Frequently asked questions
How many sprays of perfume should I use?
For an EDT, four to six. For an Extrait de Parfum, three to four is plenty.
Does perfume last longer on clothes or skin?
On clothes. Fabric holds scent longer, but skin lets the fragrance develop fully. Use both for the best result.
